SEPPA, Nov 15: In the wake of the brutal incident that occurred at the Seppa District Hospital on Thursday, a joint meeting was convened by the District Commissioner (DC), Superintendent of Police (SP), East Kameng Social Welfare & Cultural Organization (EKSWCO) and students organization.
During the meeting, DC Himanshu Nigam (IAS) emphasized the administration’s commitment to increasing security measures in the region. He assured the public that the police are actively gathering evidence to build a strong charge sheet, with the intention of ensuring exemplary punishment for the accused.
DC Nigam also addressed the concerns of the public, urging them not to fall victim to rumours surrounding the case. “The accused is currently in police custody. We are taking all necessary steps to ensure that justice is served,” he said.
Additionally, the DC appealed to the people of East Kameng to refrain from any acts of retaliation or vigilante justice. He assured the community that the police are fully engaged in the investigation and will take all measures to ensure that the perpetrators face strict legal consequences.
The meeting aimed to foster unity and trust between the public and the authorities as efforts continue to address the incident and maintain peace in the district.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Pema Khandu has also strongly condemned the brutal crime that occurred yesterday in Seppa, labeling it a "horrific act" that demands exemplary punishment for the perpetrator. In a heartfelt statement, the CM expressed deep sorrow over the loss of four innocent lives and extended prayers for the swift recovery of five others who sustained grievous injuries.
The CM praised the courage displayed by the Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Seppa Police Station and his team. Despite sustaining injuries, they acted valiantly to contain the perpetrator and prevent further harm.
As a gesture of solidarity and support for the affected families, the CM announced an ex-gratia compensation of ` 4.00 lakhs each to the next of kin of the deceased and ` 50,000 each to the injured victims.
“This senseless tragedy has shaken our community. We stand united in grief with the families of the victims and pledge to ensure justice for this heinous act,” the CM stated in his social media platform.
