ITANAGAR, Sep 18: Labour and Employment Minister Nyato Dukam on Wednesday called upon the labour community to take pride in their work, emphasising that their efforts form the backbone of the state’s progress and development.
“You are the most powerful and important factor in nation-building,” he said. “While we may work with files in offices, it is you who bring those plans to life by executing critical infrastructure projects—be it roads, government buildings, hospitals, or schools.”
The Minister was speaking at the National Labour Day-cum-Mega Awareness Camp held at Palin, organized by the Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh (BMS) Kra Daadi District Unit. The event focused on spreading awareness about the benefits and welfare schemes offered under the Arunachal Pradesh Building and Other Construction Workers’ Welfare Board.
Minister Dukam urged the labour community to safeguard the dignity of their work through discipline and honesty.
“If you are sincere, honest, and hardworking, no one will have the right to look down on you,” he stated. “Empower yourself by staying informed about your rights and the benefits you are entitled to.”
Highlighting several welfare initiatives undertaken by the state government, the Minister mentioned the increase of accidental benefit compensation from `1 lakh to `4 lakhs, retirement benefits, and other measures aimed at ensuring social and economic security for workers and their families.
Speaking about the observation of National Labour Day alongside the Vishwakarma Festival, Minister Dukam clarified that the festival transcends religious boundaries.
“Vishwakarma Festival is not merely a Hindu festival—it celebrates skill, craftsmanship, and hard work. It is, therefore, fitting that the BMS observes this day as National Labour Day to honor the workforce that drives progress,” he said.
Responding to a memorandum submitted by BMS Kra Daadi District Unit President Heri Tapum, Minister Dukam assured that all points raised were genuine and would be actively pursued with the appropriate authorities.
The Minister expressed his gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his guidance and to Chief Minister Pema Khandu for their leadership in accelerating Arunachal Pradesh’s growth.
“Under their vision, we have witnessed tremendous improvements in connectivity, basic amenities, and overall development across the state,” he remarked.
He further called on every section of society to extend support for the development of hydropower projects, stressing that these projects are crucial for transforming Arunachal Pradesh from a fund-seeking state to a self-reliant one.
“By harnessing our hydropower potential, we can generate sufficient electricity to fuel the growth of industries and create new opportunities for our people,” he added.
As part of the programme, Minister Dukam distributed blankets to labour beneficiaries attending the event.
The event was also addressed by Kra Daadi Deputy Commissioner Charu Nilli, District BJP President Khyoda Ram, and State BMS Treasurer Tadum Yangfo (Resource Person), who spoke on the history and activities of BMS, and the importance of collective efforts in advancing the welfare of workers and communities.
Earlier in the day, he also launched the ‘Swachhata Hi Seva 2025’ campaign in Kra Daadi district from Palin. The campaign was organized by the District Urban Development Agency (DUDA), Palin, in collaboration with the Department of PHE & WS Palin and Tali Divisions, underscoring the state’s commitment to cleanliness and public health.
