ITANAGAR, Feb 5: In a freak accident, a man died and two others were seriously injured when an old oil tanker exploded at Chandranagar, Itanagar on Sunday morning.
As per the report received from the District Disaster Management Authority, the incident occurred at around 11.30 am when workers were trying to dismantle the oil tanker which stored turpentine oil, which was not used for the last several years, with a gas cutter when it suddenly exploded leading to the death of one worker on the spot, while the other two sustained injuries.
The incident took place near the chemical industry Chandranagar, Itanagar.lt is run on lease by one  Dumo Lollen, added the DDMA official.
The deceased has been identified as  Riyazuddin (30 ) from  Barpeta,  Assam  and the injured persons, Md Sabir Ali, Saidul Haque  and Md Johor Ali .
While speaking to the media, Dumo Lollen informed that the tankers are being dismantled on request of the colony residents to make space for road widening. He added that the tanker was not in use for the last 7-8 years and he had no knowledge about the presence of oil in it.
"The explosion was so horrible and powerful that, the deceased body was thrown into the air," narrated an eyewitness.
The body of the deceased is kept at RK Mission Hospital Mortuary. Accordingly, a case vide Ita PS UD case No-02/23 U/S-174 Cr.P.C was registered and the case endorsed to Inspector. T.Tasso for investigation, informed SP Capital Region, Jimmy Chiram.
 After the incident, Md. Sabir Ali left for his native village and is out of danger; Md. Johor Ali is also unharmed. But Saidul Haque is admitted to the RK Mission hospital in serious condition, the SP said.
