YACHULI, Jul 31: The renovation and mordernisation of  Mai MHS Ph-II was inaugurated by Minister, Education Er. Taba Tedir at Mai village under Yachuli Circle today.
Speaking on the occasion, Tedir appreciated the efforts of the Hydro Power department for restoring the old hydel power which was almost lying defunct for last 22 years. He assured to provide a transformer which will help in regular supply of power to the village.
"With regular supply of electricity, other amenities which requires power will also be slowly but steadily constructed for Mai village," Tedir added while assuring to set a Primary Health Center at Mai.
Er. Jummar Kamdak, Chief Engineer (WZ), Dept. of Hydro Power Development presented a  brief report on the current status and the history of the hydel. He also assured to extend all possible assistance for the growth of Mai hydel power.
" Mai MHS Ph – II (2 x 500 kW) remained defunct since February 1999. Although its renovation & modernisation works commenced in 2012, the work remained stalled due to fund crunches and miscommunications.However,  it is due to the strong political will of the current MLA Er.Taba Tedir , the defunct hydel could be revived and put under commercial operation today after a gap of 22 years, despite various hurdles owing to COVID-19 pandemic," he added.
Lower Subansiri Deputy Commissioner Somcha Lowang and Lower Subansiri District Zilla Parishad Chairperson Likha Sangchhore also spoke on the occasion.
As of now only one unit of 500 kW has been revived and put under commercial operation on trial basis. After observing its functioning, necessary steps shall be taken up for reviving the other unit of 500 kW.
It is worth mentioning here that last year, due to the initiative of Tedir who is also the local legislator, the defunct Tago SHP (3 x 1500 kW) located near Yazali was revived. DIPRO
