NAHARLAGUN, Nov 8: Guru Nanak Jayanti, also known as Gurpurab, is the most important festival for the followers of the religion of Sikhism. The Capital Deputy Commissioner Talo Potom while taking part in the celebration here at Gurudwara sahib prayed for peace, communal harmony and brotherhood for better development of capital complex.
The day is celebrated to commemorate the birth anniversary of the first Sikh Guru, Guru Nanak Dev. The festival is celebrated on the day of Kartik Poornima, which is the fifteenth lunar day in the month of Kartik according to the Hindu calendar, and usually falls in the month of November by the Gregorian calendar.
Speaking to the media, DC Potom said that Gurunanak is the symbol of justice, his vision of compassion, inclusive society has inspired its followers. 
Every festival has a great message for communal harmony, brotherhood, peace, progress and development and every festival inspire its followers and believers to follow good works for wellbeing of all human being on the earth, the DC said.
