PASIGHAT, Aug 27: East Siang Deputy Commissioner Sonalika Jiwani has exhorted that onus of better future for the youth lies on each one of us and society at large. She urged NGOs and civil society to play a pivotal role in the fight against drug menace at the 12th NCORD Meeting of East Siang district here today.
The DC also reiterated for strict implementation and monitoring of standard operating procedures in Drug De-Addiction & Rehabilitation Centres and asked the In-charges of the Rehab Centres present at the meeting to mandatorily comply with the state government regulations. DA is committed to ensure strict monitoring through regular checkings of the De-Addiction Centres, she said.
One of the key focus areas in the NCORD meeting was on skill development in various trades for recovered youth, as the DC stressed to make skill development in vocational trades as part of the rehabilitation process. Jiwani asked NGOs and Skill Development department to contribute in skill development for creating self employment and employment avenues and asked the skill development department to facilitate for skill development courses and create IEC materials on skill development trades /courses through various mass & social media for wide publicity.
The NCORD meeting organized by the East Siang Police also reviewed various initiatives and action taken report viz. ongoing awareness campaigns under ongoing “ Voice Against Drug Abuse” ( VADA Clubs) of the East Siang Police to reach out maximum students & youth , prohibition on drinking in public place, enforcement measures and patrolling in vulnerable zones, joint checking of illegal liquor outlets etc.
