BOMDILA, Jan 18: Deputy Commissioner, West Kameng Karma Leki today visited the Khandro Dowa Sangmo Podang site and its monuments at the Lhagyala Cultural Centre in Morshing village under Kalaktang Sub-division to review the ongoing restoration works.
The restoration project has been sponsored by the Department of Karmik and Adhyatmik (Chos-Rig) Affairs (DoKAA) and District Rural Development Agency (DRDA), West Kameng is the executing agency. Visiting the project site, the DC while interacting with the villagers and Lamas urged them to cooperate with the administration to preserve the cultural identity of the community. “Apart from religious significance, Morshing valley has its own archaeological values too which should be protected,” he added. ADC Sang Khandu,  District Planning Officer H Taipodia, Assistant Project Officer (RE) T L Garam and other officials were part of the visiting team.
Lhagyala which is around 80 km from Bomdila towards Shergaon is famous for its Gonpa called Lhagyala Gonpa situated in the mountainside, overlooking the Morshing valley. It was constructed by Kachen Lama in the 7th century and is a repository of immense treasure and antiquities of Buddhist sectarians and plays an important role in the socio-political and religious life of the people of the area.
The term ‘Lhagyala’ means a repository of more than hundred large icons. In terms of importance, it is next to the Tawang monastery. DIPRO
