Itanagar, Sep 19: A meeting regarding adult education under Department of Education was held today in the chamber of the Deputy Commissioner Capital Itanagar, Talo Potom. 
The DC stressed on the importance of adult education for those who missed the opportunity and have crossed the age of formal education, but now wish to learn -- literacy, basic education equivalent, skill development (Vocational Education) and Continuing Education. 
While volunteering for the adult education program, the DC also offered space in his office to conduct classes for the same. 
Kani Nada Maling, President Arunachal Pradesh Women Welfare Society (APWWS) informed that APWWS has been voluntarily running the centre since May this year and at present, a total of 38 vendors are registered at their centre at Ganga and four at Naharlagun, adding that there are many other members voluntarily helping others with the adult education. She informed that at present their target group are women vendors with an aim to empower them to do better in life.
Yomjum Geyi Jongsam, Chief Coordinator APWWS showed the progress of academic work of their students to the DC. 
Tori Gadi, Asst Nodal Officer DLMA(District Literacy Mission Authority) Itanagar Capital Region informed about other NGOs like OJU Welfare Association which have been providing adult education to many. He also informed that currently a total of 37 learning centres are active in various government schools. He also highlighted various issues and hurdles in its proper implementation.
