PASIGHAT, Mar 22: Deputy Commissioner East Siang, Tayi Taggu today said that scarcity of water is being felt by the people of Pasighat inspite of heavy rainfall and called for immediate action to conserve water and utilise traditional knowledge of rural people in conserving the environment.
He was speaking on the occasion of World Water Day celebrated with the theme “Making Invisible to Visible” at College of Horticulture and Forestry, Central Agricultural University, Pasighat, in collaboration with Brahmaputra Board, Itanagar, Regional Office, Department of Water Resources, River Development and Ganga Rejuvenation, Ministry of Water Resources, New Delhi. 
The program was inaugurated by Deputy Commissioner, East Siang District, in presence of Prof. B.N.Hazarika, Dean, CHF, CAU, Pasighat and Gammo Kamki, Deputy Chief Engineer, Brahmaputra Board, Itanagar. 
Dr. Saroj Kumar Pattanaaik presented the world and India’s status of water resources along with problem of water scarcity and ways to conserve it in daily life. Various water conservation measures in agricultural and horticultural activities including watershed management were also presented. 
Gammo Kamki, narrated the indigenous water management systems of NE region along with the objectives of the program. 
Two students also presented the indigenous knowledge of NE people in conserving water and other natural resources. An essay completion was organized among the students of CHF on the importance of world water day and traditional water management systems of NEH region. The winners were given prizes by the chief guest and guest of honour.
