Aalo, Aug 22: In a significant step towards promoting public health, Darka Village under Aalo was officially declared a Tobacco-free Village under the National Tobacco Control Programme (NTCP). The declaration was made by Mabi Taipodia Jini ADC & i/c Deputy Commissioner West Siang during a public programme held at Darka.
Addressing the gathering, the ADC emphasised the harmful effects of tobacco consumption, cautioning that prolonged use of tobacco products can lead to life threatening diseases. She appealed to the village volunteers and community members to remain vigilant and ensure that the village stays free from tobacco and substance abuse.
Dr Tsering Wangmu, District Programme Officer (NCD) highlighted the objective of declaring Darka as tobacco free village while ZPC Tumpe Ete urged both the youth and elders to abstain from the use of tobacco.
Dr Linya Lollen, District Medical Officer also appealed to the villagers to maintain good health and hygiene practices in their daily lives.
SP Kardak Riba appreciated the Community Police efforts in making Darka a Tobacco free village.
