TAWANG, Jul 21: The second review meeting of district level organising committee of Tawang Marathon 2023 was held on Thursday chaired by Deputy Commissioner, Kanki Darang.
Speaking on the ocassion, the DC said that for the first time a high altitude marathon race of international level is going to be conducted in Tawang, adding that "it's a gigantic task and we have lots of challenges, but with cooperation and support from all we shall make it happen."
Though the high altitude marathon is the brainchild of the Indian army but its objective is to promote tourism in Tawang and to make people aware of physical fitness and stay healthy, he said.
Dy.commander,Tawang brigade Col JS Dhody while giving latest update regarding initial preparations for the marathon informed that promotional runs in major cities will be conducted from July 31 onwards across the country and publicity through various social media platforms are issued regularly to encourage more participation from across the globe. He raised concern for transportation and accomodation of participants willing to participate from outside state. He suggested for a complete tour package through some recognised registered travel agency for hassle free participation.
Colonel Mohammed Ali, the representative from Divisional headquarters informed that all the home work is being done for the conduct of marathon which includes route marking, online registration  of participants promo runs across the country.He suggested that since this is first time such a high altitude marathon is being organised in Tawang after Ladakh, we need proper planning to make it major calender event in years to come.
Later during open house discussion the roles and responsibilities of sub committees were discussed and it was decided that two to three active registered and recognised tour operators will be engaged for the tour package to facilitate participants and the details would be made available on Tawang marathon website soon.
