ITANAGAR, Sep 5: The Deputy Commissioner Capital Itanagar, Talo Potom convened a meeting with all the members of the District Advisory Committee, District Appropriate Authority, sonologists and gynaecologists of the state capital, managing directors and owners of all private hospitals and clinics and others regarding the Pre-Conception & Pre-Natal Diagnostic Techniques Act 1994.
The PC&PNDT Act is in place for the prohibition of sex selection, before or after conception and for regulation of pre - natal diagnostic techniques (which is used for the purposes of detecting genetic abnormalities or metabolic disorders etc.,) to prevent their misuse for sex determination leading to female foeticide and for matters connected therewith.
District Medical Officer In-charge, Dr Giri Tali highlighted about the various sections of PC – PNDT Act.( USG registration, use of machine & record keeping etc) and stressed on registration and use of USG machines, and also registration of the doctors using the same including locum doctor.

Stressing on the importance of proper record keeping in all hospitals and clinics, he added that a copy of PC-PNDT Act should be kept in all healthcare centres.
Dr Tali also stressed that the provisions under PC-PNDT Act has to be strictly followed cautioning that failure to comply may invite strict action.
All present unanimously expressed that    there is lack of awareness on PC& PNDT Act in hospitals. 
The DC asked the DMO incharge to properly sensitise all about the Act and also requested all to comply by the Act.
Among others, EAC Naharlagun Likha Radh, EAC Khoda Lasa, MD Heema Hospital Dr Byabang Rana, Sr gynaecologist Dr Bengia Mala, chairperson OWA Ratan Anya attended the meeting.
