Itanagar, Jun 15: As per the direction of the Deputy Commissioner Capital Itanagar Talo Potom , the Agricultural Produce Marketing Committee(APMC) had regulated the prices of Agri allied commodities like meats, fruits and vegetables and cereal and pulses in the Capital Itanagar.
The step was taken as complaints were received from public about exorbitant prices that were fixed randomly by merchants causing inconvenience to the public.
The DC  informed that regular checking drives are being conducted by the Enforcement Squad to ensure that prices of commodities are not sold above MRPs in the markets.
However, after receiving complaints from vendors, the DC convened a virtual meeting with the Market Associations and Retailers and vendors today.
After giving a patient hearing to their grievances regarding high cost of items at the wholesale market itself, the DC said that prices would be regulated after verifying the rates with the wholesaler and obtaining the supply rates from neighbouring states like Assam, West Bengal etc.
It was also requested by the wholesaler to regulate the rates of all perishable and non perishable items at least on weekly basis.
The DC informed that necessary directions would be passed to the concerned officers to visit the wholesale market to take stock of the prices.
The DC said that administration is aware of the inflating  market prices however it is necessary to regulate and set a fixed price for the convenience of all. He asked all to cooperate with the administration in implementing the prices set by DA which would be set keeping in mind the rise in prices, transportation cost etc.
Among others, the meeting was attended by EAC(APMC) Dr Dana Unna, APMC Members, Legal Metrology Officer and others.
