ITANAGAR, Aug 29: The Arunachal Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) today held a massive state-level rally under the banner of “Vote Chor, Gaddi Chhod” at Rajiv Gandhi Bhawan, Itanagar, drawing an electrifying crowd of over 3,000 supporters, leaders, youth, women, and students from across the state.
Speaking on the occasion, APCC President Bosiram Siram, accused the BJP of “brazenly stealing” the electoral mandate and undermining democratic institutions. “The vote thieves sitting in power have no moral right to occupy the chair. Arunachal Pradesh has witnessed the worst electoral malpractice in its history. This fight is not just Congress’ struggle—it is the people’s struggle to save democracy,” he declared, while also hitting out at the government over unemployment, misuse of machinery, border insecurity, and erosion of indigenous rights.
The rally was also attended by Dr. A. Chellakumar (AICC Incharge for Arunachal Pradesh), Adv. Mathew Antony (AICC Joint Secretary Incharge), MLA Kumar Waii, former Chief Minister Nabam Tuki, former Lok Sabha MP Takam Sanjoy, first Chief Minister & former Union Minister P.K. Thungon, and other senior leaders, including ex-APCC President Padi Richo.
Dr. Chellakumar assured full support from the All India Congress Committee, stating: “Vote thieves cannot run a government. The time has come to reclaim democracy. Under Rahul Gandhi’s leadership, Congress will stand shoulder-to-shoulder with the people of Arunachal Pradesh.” He praised the massive turnout as proof of an unstoppable people’s movement and called on youth and women to lead the democratic struggle from the front.
Adv. Mathew Antony also launched a sharp attack on the BJP, stating: “The BJP has stolen not just votes, but also the hopes and future of Arunachal Pradesh. This betrayal of democracy will not be tolerated.” He further hit out at Union Minister Kiren Rijiju for “unwarranted remarks” against Rahul Gandhi, reminding him that the Nehru-Gandhi family had sacrificed their lives for India’s independence. “Mr. Rijiju should first reflect on his own ‘Ayaram-Gayaram’ political journey before targeting Rahul Gandhi,” Antony quipped.
The rally concluded with a unanimous resolution to intensify the “Vote Chor, Gaddi Chhod” campaign across every district through mass mobilization, awareness drives, and street-level agitation until the BJP government is held accountable and free, fair democracy is restored.
