ITANAGAR, Aug 7: A 10-day training programme for community volunteers on basics of disaster response organized by the Department of Disaster Management, was inaugurated by Director, Disaster Management Komkar Dulom at Lekhi Village, Naharlagun on Monday. 
Resource persons from National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) will impart both theoretical as well practical trainings to the volunteers on basic disaster response. The programme is focussed on training of 840 volunteers from nine disaster-prone districts of Arunachal Pradesh. Training on skills needed to respond to the community’s immediate needs in the aftermath of a disaster, thereby enabling them to undertake basic relief and rescue tasks during emergency situations will be imparted. 
The first batch of 48 volunteers is from Kra Daadi district and mostly comprises of female members from Self-Help Group (SHG), NGOs etc.
In his key note address, Dulom said that despite heavy rains for the past couple of months, it was very encouraging to see female volunteers coming forward to undergo training on basic disaster response as they play an important role in society. He explained the underlying causes of various disasters and the importance of disaster preparedness at community level. Further, he advised all the trainees to complete the training and to share the knowledge to their family and friends.      
Assistant Commandant, NDRF,  Deepak Jaswal, explained the importance of training of communities on basic disaster response as they are the first responders during the times of natural disaster. He advised the volunteers to be proactive and attentive during the training programme.
Earlier, Assistant Director, Disaster Management Papang Duggong  highlighted the course module and explained the aims and objectives of the training programme.
