ITANAGAR, Jul 21: A total of 360 community volunteers from five districts--Kurung Kumey, Lepa Rada, Kamle, Upper Subansiri,  East Kameng -- completed the training programme of community volunteers on 'Basic Course on Disaster Response' organised at Lekhi by the Department of Disaster Management in collaboration with 12BN NDRF and Fire & Emergency (June 5 to July 21) which concluded today. 
The programme focussed on training  community volunteers from disaster-prone districts of Arunachal Pradesh. It emphasized to provide training on skills that they would need to response to their community’s immediate needs in the aftermath of a disaster, thereby enabling them to undertake basic relief and rescue tasks during emergency situations. 
The valedictory function was attended by Dy. Director, Disaster Management Christine Wanglat; Manmeet Singh Azad, Assistant Commandant 12BN NDRF;  Kokir Amo (SFO), Fire & Emergency Service; Assistant Director (DM) Dorjee Khandu & Papang Duggong, and DDMO Jogam Angu.
During the program, Christine Wanglat explained to the trained volunteers the importance of disaster preparedness and awareness for better management of disasters. She advised all them to utilise the skills and technique that they learned during the training by helping the communities during times of disaster.
Assistant Commandant, 12BN NDRF, Manmeet Singh Azad in his key note address stated that volunteers are the first responders, as such they play a critical role in disaster response and rescue. He appreciated the State Government for organizing such training programmes and advised the volunteers to actively participate in disaster management activities in their respective districts.  
Kokir Amo (SFO), Fire & Emergency Service advised the volunteers to follow up the skills and techniques that they learned during the training. He advised them to support the rescue agencies during emergencies.
The programme concluded with vote of thanks by Dr. Bhupen Mili, Senior Consultant, Department of Disaster Management.
