BOMDILA, Jul 5: The Child Development Project Office, Bomdila conducted a community based  event (CBE) on Wednesday to highlight the importance of early childhood care and education (ECCE). The programme was attended by Panchayati Raj Institution members of the village including members of the school monitoring committee.
To shed light on the importance of ECCE, special resource person, T.K Das (Coordinator, Pedagogy) provided a detailed explanation of the aim, vision, and objectives of ECCE.
He elaborated on the meaning of Early Childhood Care, which includes crucial components such as caring for children from birth to the age of 6 years. Mr. Das emphasized that 90% of a child's brain development occurs during this age, underscoring the importance of imparting valuable knowledge and habits to children during this critical period. He urged all the mothers in the village to take proper care of their children during this crucial stage, often referred to as the critical period.
Das further discussed the concept of Education in the ECCE program, emphasizing the significance of establishing a strong foundation even before a child enters a formal school setting. 
He emphasized that a strong foundation can be built by exposing children to various concepts and raising awareness from an early stage. He highlighted the importance of enrolling young children as early as 3-years-old in ECCE centers, where they receive holistic development.
Currently, there are 20 functional ECCE centers in West Kameng district, with 12 more in the pipeline. The school Headmaster (I/C) also stressed its importance and the need to have ECCE centers at every village level. This sentiment was supported by all the PRI members present, who promised to make efforts to bring ECCE centers to the village and maximize enrollment.
