PASIGHAT/DAMBUK, Jan 27:  The Kibo Erang Kebang (KEK) clan celebrated the Republic Day by honouring one of its great, late Muttum Darin who achieved martyrdom while resisting armed British troupes in the Anglo - Abor war of 1894 at Dambuk's Bongal Yapgo war memorial site.
The national flag was unfurled by Lower Dibang Valley District Zila Parishad Chairperson, Tony Borang in presence of KEK members and office bearers led by Tobuk Dai, President. Borang, hoped that the state and central government will give due recognition to the war heroes of Anglo-Abor war.
Muttum Darín was martyred in the Anglo-Abor War of 1893-94, popularly known as Bongal Mimak at Bongal Yapgo, under Dambuk Circle. The date and year in which he actually took part in the said war is not clearly known, however many elderly people who recall the oral history of the area say that Darín died in March 1894 in the war while resisting the entry of armed British troupe, who were on Abor Hill Expedition at Bongal Yapgo, presently located at Yapgo Village under Dambuk Circle.
“It was not only him but many other warriors took part, sacrificed their lives and some even survived. All such heroes deserve due recognition for their sacrifice from Adis in particular and the Government of Arunachal Pradesh in general. In fact, they were patriots in the true sense and deserve a place in Arunachal history as freedom fighters," said KEK President, Tobuk Dai.
The War memorial (Muttum Lireng) was dedicated to the Martyr Muttum Darin and  was unveiled by MLA Gum Tayeng in March 2021.
