Daporijo, Aug 17: A ten-member committee was constituted to sort out the prevailing tense situation regarding the Subansiri Upper Hydro Project, after a consultative meeting convened on Saturday.
A one-day consultative meeting of the Subansiri Upper Hydro Project was convened under the chairmanship of Nyato Dukam , Minister Labour IPR etc, following the recent protest and public opposition to the construction of the dam over the Menga River under Taliha constituency.
During the meeting all the representatives from different villages, those affected by the project, expressed their sentiments and opposed the implementation of Subansiri Upper Hydro Project. They cited various public grievances and other adverse effects of the project in terms of loss of livelihood, social problems, seismic vulnerability, environmental impact, and displacement and rehabilitation.
Dukam, advocating the construction of hydro power projects, enlightened the public on various scopes and opportunities on introducing of projects. He urged the public to extend their support in implementation of the project for the welfare of society and nation as a whole.
Taniya Soki, MLA Daporijo, Rode Bui, MLA Dumporijo and Nakap Nalo , during their speech unequivocally, appealed to the affected public to reconsider their demand positively for the peaceful construction of the hydro project. They all informed on the various benefits, which will lead to greater development of the area and society on the completion of projects.
Deepak Sagar, General Manager, NHPC, while speaking to the public said that, their project is initiated on the demand from state governments. However, if the state government requests for cancellation of projects, NHPC will stop the projects.
Meantime, he also informed on administration relationships with NHPC and state govt on the hydro power projects.
Tanga Byaling, former Home Minister, Daklo Nidak , Fomer Home Minister, Larbin Nasi, former MLA, Tuter Dulom, Secretary General Tagin Cultural Society , TK Tagin , retired Chief Engineer, RWD , also enlightened on the Subansiri Upper hydro project.
DC Tasso Gambo, and many other dignitaries along with stakeholders participated in the meeting.
