ITANAGAR, Feb 22:

 

Chief Minister Pema Khandu today received Sonam Yudron, the first Arunachalee woman to become Deputy Inspector General (DIG) in the Indian Paramilitary force, the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB).

 

Ms Yudron who is currently posted at frontier headquarters in Tezpur, was promoted to the rank of DIG on 1 February 2017. She is also the second woman in the country to have reached her rank in the SSB.

 

On behalf of the citizens of Arunachal, the Chief Minister congratulated DIG Yudron on her success, saying that her achievement has made the state proud.

 

"I believe that your rare achievement will stimulate young women in the state to invest in themselves, their capacities and aspire to turn their dreams into reality," said Khandu.

 

Yudron is from Dirang in West Kameng district from where she did her early schooling. She completed her MA from Punjab University and worked as Junior Teacher under Arunachal government.

 

On her encouragement from friends, she joined SSB as Circle Organiser in 1984 after she topped in the recruitment exam. She was later promoted as Area Organiser in 1991.
