Khonsa, Dec 1: Ramakrishna Mission Narottam Nagar, in association with SPIC MACAY (Arunachal Chapter), SRF Foundation, and the Department of Education, Government of Arunachal Pradesh, successfully conducted workshops on two eminent Indian classical art forms—Dhrupad and Sattriya Nritya—from November 26- 30, at the institution.
The Dhrupad workshop was led by Padma Shri Ustad Wasifuddin Dagar, one of India’s foremost exponents of the Dagar tradition, with  Mohan Shyam Sharma accompanying him on the Pakhawaj. The Sattriya Nritya sessions were conducted by Usha Rani Baishya, recipient of the Ustad Bismillah Khan Yuva Puraskar, who introduced students to the grace, discipline, and devotional essence of this classical dance form.
Registered youth from various places in Arunachal Pradesh who primarily stay at the institution's hostels actively took part in the training sessions, gaining meaningful exposure to the depth and heritage of Indian classical performing arts. In addition to the workshops, the visiting artistes presented Dhrupad recitals and Sattriya Nritya performances at Ramakrishna Mission Narottam Nagar, Wangcha Rajkumar Government College, Government Higher Secondary School, Deomali, and several other schools in and around Deomali, inspiring hundreds of students and teachers.
The workshops concluded on November 30 with the presentation of the trainees at the Vivekananda Sabhagriha of the institution.
The initiative aimed to cultivate refined aesthetic sensibilities among young learners and to encourage them toward constructive cultural engagement. By introducing classical arts in an immersive manner, the programme sought to divert students from negative influences such as substance abuse and to nurture a deeper appreciation for India’s timeless artistic traditions.
The successful conduct of these workshops reaffirmed Ramakrishna Mission’s commitment to holistic education and cultural enrichment in the region.
