Itanagar, Jun 25: Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein, attended the valedictory session of HIM Samwaad 2025 held in Itanagar on the theme “Strengthening Community Engagement for Sustainable Health and Water Solutions.” The session brought together diverse stakeholders from across the Himalayan region to deliberate on inclusive and sustainable approaches to healthcare, water security, and community resilience.
In his address, Chowna Mein emphasized the unique challenges faced by Himalayan states including geographical remoteness, ecological vulnerability, and uneven access to public services and underlined the central role of community engagement in addressing these issues effectively. He highlighted recent progress made by Arunachal Pradesh, such as the success of the Chief Minister’s Arogya Arunachal Yojana (CMAAY), drone-based healthcare delivery under ‘Medicine from the Sky,’ and the state’s milestone achievement of 100% household tap water coverage under the Jal Jeevan Mission.
The Deputy Chief Minister also stressed the importance of integrating traditional knowledge systems with modern health infrastructure. He called for the preservation and institutionalization of indigenous medicinal practices, enhanced investment in climate-resilient infrastructure, and the promotion of women and youth leadership in water and health governance. 
Mein also reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to community-led, technology-enabled, and culturally respectful development, stating that our communities are not just beneficiaries, but equal partners in shaping a healthier and more resilient Himalayan future.
He was joined by Harshit Kumar, Co-Convenor of HIM Samwaad 2025; Shyam Parande, Global Coordinator, Sewa International; Dr Satya Tripathi, Secretary-General, MLA Jikke Tako, Global Alliance for a Sustainable Planet; Dr Sandip Singh, Director, IIM Kashipur; Vani Manoraj, Convenor, HIM Samwaad 2025; and Vijay Swami, Executive Director, RIWATCH.
