ITANAGAR, Apr 24: Chief Minister Pema Khandu today made a promise that after resolving the long pending Assam –Arunachal boundary issue, he will resolve the vexed Chakma-Hajong issue amidst a huge gathering here on Monday at DK Convention Hall, during the National Panchayat Day.
Many have lost their lives in Assam –Arunachal boundary issue from both sides but today the vexed issue is solved after signing MoU in presence of Union Minister Amit Shah. According to the MoU, Arunachal has received 115 out of 123 villages while Assam has only eight. Khandu expressed the government's commitment to its responsibilities and stated that the Chakma-Hajong problem is the next big challenge for the state and will be resolved soon.
Khandu emphasized that the Chakmas settled in Arunachal Pradesh during the 1960s after facing religious persecution in Bangladesh are living in painful conditions, and Arunachal Pradesh does not have any provision to allow them to stay permanently and stay in Arunachal won’t change their status, stated Khandu while adding that with the help of central authorities, arrangements are being made to shift the Chakmas to a place where they can live their lives with dignity.
