ITANAGAR, July 4: Deputy Commissioner Capital Itanagar Talo Potom convened a meeting with the central team led by Dr Mahesh B Dale,  Central Nodal officer and Dr SS Vittala Technical Officer ‘Jal Shakti Abhiyan : Catch the Rain 2022’ to discuss regarding the importance of conservation of water and to discuss various measures to conserve and rejuvenate water bodies.
The EE WRD Er Techi Topu Tara briefed about the focused intervention under JSA 2022 viz rainwater harvesting & water conservation, enumerating, geo-tagging & making inventory of all
water bodies, preparation of scientific plans for water conservation, setting up Jal Shakti Kendra, intensive afforestation and awareness generation. He informed that the Jal Shakti Kendra is already operational in the office of the Executive Engineer WRD Itanagar.
Dr SS Vitala while informing about the main objective of the JSA 2022 which is the conservation of water resources, said that there are many ways to adopt to conserve water and some commonly used methodology could be roof top harvesting which is hugely successful in the southern states of the country. Dr Dale while stressing on reformative measures to conserve water, stressed on the need to carry out enumeration of water bodies and their geo tagging/GIS mapping. He asked the department concerned to update the activities on the JSA:CTR portal regularly.Also calling for community mobilisation, Dr Dale stressed that awareness generation program especially at Panchayat levels should be conducted to create awareness on water conservation.

The DC asked all the departments concerned to coordinate with each other for an effective and comprehensive water conservation plan.
The central team is visiting the district to take stock of the progress of the ‘Jal Shakti Abhiyan: Catch the Rain 22’ and discuss ways for its effective implementation.
