ITANAGAR, Jan 19: Reacting to the recent satellite-image-backed media reports that show a Chinese village in the territory of Arunachal Pradesh, Chief Secretary Naresh Kumar today informed that the Government of India is taking serious and concrete steps on such activities.
Kumar informed that although the state officials have not received any concrete information of Chinese construction, local police and Gaon Burahs of nearby areas have been engaged to verify the media reports. The US-based imaging company Planet Labs has claimed that its satellite image taken in November 2020 shows that around 100 houses have been built along river Tsari Chu in Upper Subansiri district, whereas there were no construction signs in the area in August 2019. Earlier, reacting to the tweet of Congress MP Rahul Gandhi who questioned the BJP-led central government on the said Chinese construction through a newspaper clip attachment, Union Minister for Sports & Youth Affairs and Arunachal West MP Kiren Rijiju tweeted: "Those locations you (Rahul Gandhi) are referring to have been under Chinese occupation since very-very long Congress regime in India. How can a national leader be ignorant and unaware of sensitive facts?" However, on Monday the Ministry of External Affairs replied to the reports stating that the government keeps a strict vigil on all the developments which threaten India’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
The MEA asserted that India has significantly stepped up its infrastructure projects in border areas for improvement of the livelihood of its citizens, including in Arunachal Pradesh. With agency inputs
