ITANAGAR, Jul 13:  After outbreaks of Paederus dermatitis also known as ‘Nairobi fly’ have been documented worldwide, at least eight to nine cases have been reported in  Itanagar. The symptoms include skin inflammation, rashes and blisters in severe cases.
Speaking to the  media, Dr. Tunu Gadi, a Paediatrician at the Ramakrishna Mission Hospital, Itanagar, informed that since the beginning of July this year, she has been encountering cases of Nairobi fly; as of now 8 to 9 cases have been reported.
She informed that the infection is  basically caused by coming in contact with a beetle belonging to peaderus family .The insect doesn’t bite or sting but releases an acidic fluid after coming in contact with skin.The acidic fluid causes irritation, inflammation and blistering (usually linear) of the skin surface.
As precaution, Dr. Gadi suggested that to wash the affected area immediately with soap and water then visit a local paediatrician. She advised to avoid sleeping on floor and on encountering the insect not to touch or crush the insect.
