BANDERDEWA,  May 21:  In yet another breakthrough against drugs racket, Capital police  arrested five persons and seized 257.52 gms suspected heroin from Banderdewa.
Acting on a tip off, SP Capital Jimmy Chiram constituted a team led by SDPO- Naharlagun Rike Kamsi, and Inspector Tadu Hassang, OC PS Banderdewa who arrested  the five peddlers with suspected heroin from a hotel in Banderdewa.
The arrested peddlers Sahida Khatun (36), Faruk Ali (19) Riyajul Islam ( 23), Suria Khatun (22)  and Sulema Khatun( 23) hail from Nagaon, Assam.
On May 20 last, we received an input from a reliable source which was engaged by Inspector  Tadu Hassang that one main peddler has recently brought huge  consignment  of drugs (Suspected Heroin) from Nagaon, Assam.
The drug was to be supplied in the Itanagar Capital Region. After getting the tip-off, Police team raided the Hotel Holiday Inn, Banderdewa, a detailed search was conducted and seized 21 packets of suspected Heroin worth Rs. 10 Lakhs, cash amounting to Rs. 20, 300 and five mobile phones, stated SP-ICR Jimmy Chiram in a press statement.
He further informed that on measurement the quantity was found to be 257.52 grams.  This is considered Commercial Quantity as per NDPS Act. All the formalities have been done as per NDPS Act, added SP while informing that Case No. 16/21 U/S 21(c) NDPS Act has been registered at Police station Banderdewa.
APP led by worthy DGP RP Upadhayaya has taken the drug menace in the state very seriously. All the Districts Police have been enjoined upon to deal with the drug menace with utmost priority, he added.
Capital police is continuing its efforts against drugs and in last two months, more than 10 cases have been registered and over 20 people arrested. On May 20, Naharlagun PS team recovered 943 gms cannabis, arrested a person in Case No-85/21 u/s 20(b)(ii) NDPS Act, stated the SP.
