ITANAGAR, June 13:  The Capital Police  busted a major theft racket, resulting in the recovery of stolen arms, ammunition, and a range of valuable belongings and booked nine people. Acting swiftly upon receiving a written complaint on June 5 last, the police registered a case under ITA/PS Case No. 125/23 U/s 379 IPC and entrusted Inspector Ongsa Ronrang with the investigation.
In its press statement, the capital police stated that under the leadership of SDPO Itanagar Kamdam Sikom, a dedicated team along with CRPF personnel, was formed for conducting search operations related to the stolen items. Through meticulous analysis of CCTV footage and invaluable human intelligence, the team successfully apprehended a suspect identified as Toi Tamang (22) in the early hours of June 8 last.
Subsequent investigations unveiled a complex network of criminal activities, as it was discovered that the accused had sold the stolen arms and ammunition to a notorious drug peddler named Ravi Singh in Naharlagun. Further unraveling the chain of events, Ravi Singh was found to have passed on the pistol and ammunition to another individual,  Gyati Noni. Fortunately, diligent efforts by the police led to the recovery of the arms and ammunition from  Noni's possession.
The breakthrough in the case also facilitated the retrieval and seizure of various stolen valuable properties, including a .32 Pistol with 10 rounds, 5 Cheque Books/Pass Books/Bankers Cheques, a Gold Chain, a Stone locket with Gold margin, a pair of Gold earrings, 2 Laptops, an APPLE iPad, a DSLR camera, 5 Mobile Phones, a Scooty, a Royal Enfield Motorcycle, an Inverter Battery, and 9 Metallic articles such as idols of God/Goddesses and pooja equipment.
The successful operations have resulted in the resolution of five cases ITA/PS Case No. 125/23 U/s 379 IPC, ITA/PS Case No. 134/23 U/s 380 IPC, Chimpu PS Case No. 27/23 U/s 457/380 IPC, Niti Vihar PS Case No. 22/23 U/s 380 IPC, and Papu Hills PS Case No. 30/23 U/s 457/380 IPC. While significant progress has been made, the investigation is still ongoing to extract further information from the arrested individuals.
The persons booked in connection with the cases are Toi Tamang (22), Ravi Singh (24) ,Gyati Noni (22) , Tapan Sarkar (32), Sanjit Barman (27), Maru Takam (19), Mose Sorang (25), Mintu Hazarika (25) and  Saddam Hussain (24) .
Meanwhile, the SP Capital Jimmy Chiram, has urged the residents of the twin city to dial 112 to report any incident for prompt action.
