ITANAGAR, Aug 20: In a significant breakthrough, the capital police in Itanagar apprehended six individuals involved in a series of mobile phone snatching incidents, along with the seizure of illicit drugs and stolen properties.
The accused were reportedly engaged in robbing unsuspecting victims of their mobile phones and money, using sharp instruments to intimidate them. The police also recovered a cache of stolen items and narcotics from the suspects.
According to Superintendent of Police Itanagar  Rohit Rajbir Singh, the police had received complaints from three separate individuals who had fallen victim to snatching incidents in different locations within the Itanagar Capital Region (ICR). Acting swiftly, the police formed a dedicated team to investigate the incidents. The team initially apprehended Takam Diet (22) and Balo Teni (18) for questioning, and subsequently, through a combination of technical surveillance and human intelligence, they managed to apprehend three more suspects.
During the course of their investigation, it was revealed that the accused had employed intimidation tactics, armed with sharp instruments, to carry out the snatching crimes. They targeted their victims' belongings, including mobile phones and money. In the course of interrogations, the suspects confessed that their motive behind these criminal activities was to obtain money for the purpose of procuring drugs for personal consumption.
In a surprising turn of events, the police also arrested one Taya Nadar (27), who was found to be in possession of suspected narcotics, including around 63 grams of suspected heroin. The authorities also confiscated drug-related paraphernalia, such as 12 empty cases and 130 empty vials. In addition to the narcotics, the police recovered a stolen vehicle and cash amounting to Rs. 14,000.
SP Rohit Rajbir Singh further informed the media that several of the arrested individuals were repeat offenders, with previous cases registered against them within the ICR. The accused have been identified as Takam Diet (22), Balo Teni (18), Taya Nadar (27), Ngurang Tako (20), Risso Nidam (21), and Boria Marshal (24).
