Itanagar, Apr 20: A meeting was convened today under the chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner Capital Itanagar, Talo Potom to discuss and to take up the issue of prevention of drugs and substance abuse among children within the Itanagar Capital Region as per the guidelines of National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR).
Deputy Director-ICDS, Aroti Tayeng while highlighting the topic also threw light on the present status of drug abuse cases amongst children in the Capital Region.
Tamchi Taniang, on behalf of DDSE, ICR informed about the various campaigns undertaken by their department on the issue of drug abuse amongst the children (Primary to Higher Secondary level). He also suggested the authority to appoint nodal officer preferably Principal or Headmaster at school level to identify the children who are in need of help.
The need for government rehabilitation centre at ICR was also highlighted. Officials mentioned that the current reported cases are mostly  being taken up at private rehab centres which again becomes a costly affair for the patient's family. Need for exclusive female rehab centre at ICR was also stressed.
Later, after a brief discussion with all the participants, the DC directed that the data in compliance with the Joint Action Plan Indicator is to be collected and submitted to the District Administration following which a meeting will be held to discuss the further course of action.
Among others, the meeting was attended by ADC Headquarters Shweta Nagarkoti, ASP Capital Thutan Jamba, DMO Dr Mandip Perme and a host of other officers.
