ITANAGAR, Mar 15: The Itanagar capital district administration today huddled for an emergency meeting to discuss strategies to be adopted to control and stop the forest fire at Ganga Chimi area.
In the meeting chaired by Deputy Commissioner Capital Itanagar Sachin Rana, officers from Forest Department and Fire and Emergency Services informed that every effort is being made to control the fire including deployment of men and machineries. However, due to inaccessible terrain, the men & machineries could reach only up to a certain extent and the fire couldn’t be doused completely.
ZPM Batt-Ganga, Taro Tagia informed that apart from men and machineries from the department, many local youths have also been engaged to control the fire since the last two days. The team reached the location and managed to control the fire up to some extent but unfortunately it spread to other location, informed the ZPM.
The DC said that corrective actions have to be taken to stop the fire at any cost. A team led by ADC Shweta Nagarkoti, as Incident Commander has been formed which will proceed early morning on Thursday towards the incident site.
Additional manpower from Police, Fire and Emergency Services, SDRF, Forest, AAPDA Mitra volunteers have been deployed to assist the team, informed the DC. The DC has also asked the ZPM and GPC of Ganga and Chimi to deploy youths if possible to assist the team locally in the mountainous terrain.
The DC has also directed the RFO to lodge an FIR again the miscreants and directed the Capital Police to ascertain the cause of fire and take necessary actions as per law.
Rana further appealed to the denizens of Capital Itanagar to remain alert and to inform the District Administration, Disaster Management Department or the Police whenever such incidents occur so that early measures could be adopted to tackle such events.
Among others, ADC Shweta Nagarkoti, ADC Jiken Bomjen, EAC Itanagar Nangram Pingkap, EAC Khoda Lasa, ASP Kamdam Sikom, DDMO Moromi Dodum Sonam and GPCs of Ganga & Chimi attended the meeting.
