ITANAGAR, May 24: At least six days have passed since the Itanagar region has been hit hard by the lack of water supply  due to damage caused to its main pipelines near Poma.
Speaking to this daily, Executive Engineer –PHED (Itanagar) Tadar Mangku informed that the damaged portion was briefly restored on May 23 last.
However,  water supply was affected because another leakage was detected somewhere between Jote & Poma, he added. “After restoration we have tried to release water but unfortunately, the water didn’t reach the city, when inquired it was found that leakage took place in another location due to heavy pressure and other technical conditions”, stated the official.
“Our men and machine are on the job day and night to restore it. We are still at the site and will provide our full effort to fix it as soon as possible. Probably by 3AM of May 25 we will fix the leakage, informed the Engineer while adding that proper water supply will resume by the evening of May 25 or 26th morning.
Due to torrential rainfall leading to soil erosion, the main water supply line got damaged at Rillo-Moin village on May 19 last. Such interruptions of water supply during pre-monsoon and monsoon has become a regular feature of this Multi-crore water supply project.
