Yupia, May 30: One day training and capacity building for Anti Human Trafficking Unit( AHTU) Papum Pare District and other stakeholders was organised by the Arunachal Pradesh State Women Commission (APSCW), with the support of Arunachal Pradesh Police at Yupia today. The programme was sponsored by the National Commission for Women, New Delhi.  OCs of Police Stations, Police personnel, Officials from One Stop Centre Oju Mission, officers and staffs APSCW attended the programme.
Addressing the participants, Chairperson APSCW, Kenjum Pakam said that it is for the  first  time in the state that training and capacity building for Anti Human Trafficking Unit(AHTU) is being conducted as per the direction of the National Commission for Women, New Delhi.  She also said that  AHTU has been activated in various districts of the state and effort will be made to establish such units in vulnerable pockets of inter-state cross border post to check human trafficking.
She lauded the Police department for their support and emphasised on maintaining good relations in days to come work in unison in dealing with such sensitive issues. 
Additional Superintendent of Police, Bomken Basar, Supervisor Officer, Anti Human Trafficking  Unit Papum Pare District who attended the programe as resource person  gave presentation on legal provisions and coordination among all stakeholders to prevent human trafficking and elaborated the role and duties of  police officers in human trafficking cases. He informed that as per Ministry of Home Affairs directions Anti -Human Trafficking Unit has been activated in the district and said that human trafficking in the form domestic helpers is very high in the state and added that  AHTU in the districts will work on it.   While appealing the public that  human trafficking especially where girl child and minors are involved is illegal and for such cases, he asked the  AHTU to take action against such offenders.  He also informed that training and awareness programme will be carried out at all Police Stations across the district to sensitize role and responsibilities and ways to handle such cases by following standard Operation Procedures.
Maya Pulu, Member, APSCW, one of the resource persons of the programme gave exclusive presentation on human trafficking and said that awareness from grassroot level  is needed to sensitize the public about human trafficking. 
Komna Moidam who was also resource person gave orientation on Anti-Human Trafficking Unit roles and duties and informed that AHTU is established to effectively monitor and combat the cases related to human trafficking especially women and children. 
Meanwhile Member Secretary APSCW, Mabi Taipodia urged upon the  AHTU Papum Pare District to become a role model for other districts in fighting against human trafficking.
