ITANAGAR, Jun 16: Calling attention to the rejection of certain documents related to the Northeast game and different disciplines of Karate, aggrieved candidates today urged the authorities to "uphold the credibility of the sports quota system and ensure that deserving candidates are not unjustly denied opportunities."
In a press conference held today, one of the aggrieved aspirants Dana Taju, flagged the issue regarding the verification of documents during the physical test phase, which he said, "resulted in the rejection of certain documents related to the Northeast game and different disciplines of Karate."
According to the aspirants, the job vacancy advertisement for the police department's sports quota was released in 2018. As part of the application process, candidates submitted their documents, which were verified, and 257 candidates were selected out of a total of 412 applicants for physical tests.
However, during the physical test phase, the candidates' documents related to the Northeast game and various disciplines of Karate were unexpectedly rejected. The candidates of Shito-Ryu, Shoto-Kan, Goju-Ryu, and Wodo-Kai Karate discipline were not considered during the recent recruitment of a meritorious sportsperson for the post of Sub-inspector without any reason nor has the AR Department passed/issued press order regarding modification of the recruitment procedures.  Since these four major styles of Karate discipline are affiliated with World Karate Federation as well as National Karate Federation, said Taju, adding that the rejection came as a shock to the aspirants who had previously been selected based on the verification of their documents.
Seeking justice from the state government, the aggrieved candidates urged authorities to address their concerns promptly. They emphasized the need for a fair and transparent process that upholds the principles of merit and equal opportunity. Frustrated by the apparent inconsistency in the verification process, the candidates warned that if their grievances were not addressed, they would resort to democratic movements, including hunger strike.
The candidates called upon the state government and the Police Headquarters (PHQ) in Itanagar to intervene and provide a solution to their concerns. They stressed the importance of upholding the credibility of the sports quota system and ensuring that deserving candidates are not unjustly denied opportunities.
 "There are many instances in the past, where players of Northeast games and Style games under Karate were selected for different posts in the Home Department, but this time they suddenly rejected the documents that too at the last moment without giving any intimation to the candidates," stated Taju.
