Mariyang, May 28: A  two-day awareness campaign on the ill effects of drugs and substance abuse was organized at Geku and Mariyang by the Department of WCD/SJETA in coordination with the APWWS, Upper Siang District which concluded today. 
Akan Regon, ADC Mariyang spoke in length on the need to have an integrated approach with the support of all stakeholders to tackle the prevalence of drug abuse in society. He urged every village to pass a resolution to stop opium cultivation and shun drug abuse.
Various risk factors associated with drug abuses like physical and mental impairment, provisions of NDPS Act, 1985, etc., were addressed by the speakers. The womenfolk were also appealed to stand united in the fight against drug abuse and the public urged to report cases of opium cultivation to the law enforcing agency.
The Mariyang Area Intellectual Forum group was also felicitated on the occasion for their activities to raise awareness on drug abuse in society. DIPRO
