ITANAGAR, Dec 10: Along with the rest of the Northeastern states, Arunachal Pradesh today joined the Anti-Citizenship Amendment Bill protest by supporting  the 11-hour bandh called by the North East Students Organization (NESO) and All Arunachal Pradesh Students Union today.
Despite assurance from the state government regarding zero impact of CAB in Arunachal; total shutdown was seen across Arunachal opposing the Citizenship Amendment Bill. Schools, banks as well as other business establishments were closed and attendance in government offices was also seen to be very thin. Vehicles remained off the road except for Magistrate and Police vehicles.
Speaking to media, Coordinator NESO, Pritam Sonam said 'Since day one NESO is demanding total scrapping of CAB. Despite strong resentment from entire northeastern states, central government is adamant to introduce the bill again and again in Parliament.'
While responding to the assurance of Home Minister Bamang Felix, he added ‘For how long BEFR and Chin Hills Regulation will protect us. Both the regulations are not from the Indian government but introduced by the British. So how long can we have faith; one day it might be revoked from our state,' asserted  NESO Coordinator.' He  also opined that the influx  of illegal immigrants is still going on  and there is no strong regulation to stopped them.
Clarifying reservations on CAB, AAPSU General Secretary Tobom Dai categorically said that the AAPSU’s stand is clear "No to CAB."
Along with NESO, we have also objected the  said Bill from day one demanding complete revocation of CAB, if not then  exemption of entire Northeast from the purview of the CAB, added Dai.
‘The present Bill placed by the central government is more like a divisive policy as it has exempted Arunachal, Mizoram and Nagaland. But the epicenter of Northeast is Assam, so if Assam is in trouble then all other NE states will by default be affected,' said  the AAPSU  General Secretary.
The 11-hour bandh call given by NESO and AAPSU  from 5 am to 4 pm went off peacefully without any untoward  incident reported from  capital region, informed  Superintendent of Police, Tumme Amo.
The 11 hour statewide bandh passed off peacefully in East Siang district.
SP East Siang, Rajiv Ranjan Singh informed that adequate forces were deployed in all vulnerable places followed by constant police patrolling and no untoward incident has been reported from any corner of the district. Cultural troupes from Rajasthan, Odisha and Nagaland to participate in ‘Discover North East Yatra’ reached Pasighat safely with the help of police escort via bordering Ruksin check gate, added SP Singh.
