ITANAGAR, Mar 6: Itanagar Police arrested a man within  hours after four bullets were fired at the bungalow of the Home Minister, Bamang Felix this morning. Three bullets were fired at the residence gate and one in the air.
"The person has been identified as 47-year-old Gangte Tadap a permanent resident of Leel Village, Sangram and presently residing in Itanagar," informed Superintendent of Police, ICR, Jimmy Chiram.
 Through CCTV footage, police recorded the registration number of the car used in the crime and sent an alert to all the check gates, police stations at Balijan, PS-Seijusa including the Superintendent of Police, Biswanath Chariali, Assam.
 We immediately formed a team led by SDPO K Sikom and other officers. Further  we roped in Superintendent of Police –SIT, and with  his support we recorded the movement of the accused. Special checking team was also formed at Chimpu- Naka and personnel were briefed about the car and other details.   Later in the afternoon, the naka team   intercepted the accused's car though he had removed the registration number by then. Though the accused tried to escape the scene but the alert police team intercepted him between Chimpu-Jullang road, informed the SP.
When asked about the motive behind the crime, the SP said "As per preliminary investigation, the accused declared that he is a good political supporter of the Minister since last many years; and as the Minister has not provided him much aid till date, he fired bullets at the bungalow."
We haven’t found any past criminal record yet, but investigation is still on, informed the SP, while adding that, the accused was in a drunken stage when he executed the crime and as per eye witnesses the accused had been drinking alcohol since the evening of 5th March.
A case U/S IPC 336/307/27 Arms Act has been registered against the accused.
