ITANAGAR, Jun 16: In the ongoing Arunachal-Assam boundary conflict, the All Arunachal Pradesh Border Students' Union (AAPBSU) has taken a stand and submitted a memorandum to the concerned authorities, urging immediate action. The union has raised four significant points regarding the matter, emphasizing the release of innocent victims and the re-verification of the Regional Committee's decisions.
Speaking to the media at the Press Club today, the AAPBSU President (Interim) Tarh Tagung informed that the team visited Torjan village in Kangku Circle, Lower Siang District, Arunachal Pradesh, following the firing incident on June 5th last. After interacting with the villagers, it was revealed that the public living near Torjan had maintained peaceful relations with neighbouring villages in Assam. However, certain individuals with personal interests manipulated residents of Assam, leading to encroachments on Arunachal Pradesh land. Acts of destruction, including fence demolitions and torching of huts were reported. The Administration of Assam promptly responded by dismantling the illegal structures, he said.
The union also alleged that one  Durga Bora from Dihingia Village, Gogamukh, District Dhemaji of Assam, has been identified as the main conspirator behind the June 5th incident. Previously arrested for a rape case, Durga Bora allegedly instigated the recent controversy. The AAPBSU has filed an FIR against him, urging authorities to arrest him promptly.
Further, the union has also expressed concern about the innocent victims who were wrongfully implicated in the conflict. Five senior citizens, including an 80-year-old Gaon Burah, were arrested. We request authorities to release the innocent individuals, considering their health conditions, stated Tagung.
AAPBSU has also raised questions about the acceptance of the looping system in Durpai, Champak Chayo, and Sogum villages in Kangku Circle, Lower Siang District. The public in these villages and the Kangku Circle are not in agreement with the implemented looping system after the signing of the memorandum of understanding (MoU). The AAPBSU urges the government of Arunachal Pradesh to re-verify the situation, taking into account the historical significance of the area. The State government should make the report public related to the Regional Committee on Assam- Arunachal Boundary issue, added Tagung.
‘The union hopes that the authorities will carefully consider the four points highlighted in their memorandum and take necessary action to address the concerns. Failure to do so may result in democratic movements," stated the President (Interim).
