RONO HILLS, Mar 4: A voluntary blood donation camp was organised by the Women Fraternity of Rajiv Gandhi University in collaboration with National Service Scheme, RGU Unit, National Cadet Corps, RGU Unit, Arunachal Voluntary Blood Donor’s Organisation (AVBDO) and Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat today today to commemorate the month-long celebration of International Women’s Day 2021 at RGUTA Office, RGU, Rono Hills. 
In his welcome address, Dr Anil Mili, Coordinator, NSS emphasised the importance of women in our lives. Assistant Professor, Champa Tanga, Coordinator, Voluntary Blood Donation Camp narrated how the ABVDO with the motto of ‘Give Blood Save life’ came into being in 2008. She further enumerated the details of programs successfully conducted in the past 12 years which being 846 Voluntary Blood Donation Camps, 36 Mega Blood Donation Camps and 10866 Awareness Camps.  So far, a total of 2,32,000 Blood Units have been collected via these camps. Furthermore, AVBDO has a count of 2000+ voluntary blood donors and the number is ever increasing.
This was followed with the felicitation of the guests, Ramesh Jeke, Founder of AVBDO, Dr. Tashi Pale, Pathology Medical Officer, Ms. Chongneithem Lhouvum, State Coordination Officer, State Blood Transfusion Council (SBTC) and also the medical team. 
Ramesh Jeke, the Chairperson, ABVDO recounted how he chose Service to Humanity over his career in 2008 when he decided to form the organisation rather than continuing his course in NDA, Pune. He cited two stories wherein the importance of blood donation was emphasised in Itanagar. 
The Pro Vice Chancellor, RGU, Professor Amitava Mitra requested everyone to pledge themselves as blood donor. The Registrar, RGU, Dr. NT Rikam congratulated the Women Fraternity of RGU and all other stakeholders of the program. He motivated everyone to donate blood and emphasised on the teachers’ role in this.
Professor Saket Kushwaha, Vice Chancellor, RGU  lauded the women fraternity of RGU for the successful event. 
A total of 127 donors checked in for the event of which 86 units of blood were collected. The blood donors included faculty, teaching and non teaching staff, their family members, students, scholars, NCC cadets and NSS volunteers.
