ITANAGAR, Aug 22: Arunachal Jan Kalyan Sangathan (AJKS) today took to the streets to protest the alleged corruption charges leveled by the organization against the Itanagar Municipal Corporation (IMC).
Holding placards and banners, protesters participated in the rally from Akashdeep complex to the Tennis Court at IG Park.
Speaking to the media, Chairman AJKS Nabam Tama said that they have submitted a representation to the concerned urban local body authorities and to the governor regarding the alleged corruption prevailing in the Itanagar Municipal Corporation but till date no response has been received.
He alleged that the present Itanagar Municipal Corporation official is involved in multi-crore corruption under 14th and 15th Finance Commission and other centrally sponsored schemes funds. The AJKS stated that the Itanagar Municipal Corporation is practicing the ‘offline’ mode of project tendering to manage corruption by "pick and choose" policy. Whereas, it is in public domain that the departments have already adopted an online tender system for any kind of work.
“The offline mode of the tender process is a violation of the central public works department which is not applicable, especially under centrally sponsored schemes. We will wait for next fifteen days, and if no action is taken then the organization will go for another democratic movement," said Nabam Tama.
