ITANAGAR, Dec 26: The Nyishi Ethnic Students of Arunachal (NESA) has strongly opposed the proposed decision of the  state government to grant PRC to few non-APST communities of Lekang Circle, Namsai District.
Addressing a press conference, president of NESA Biri Chattum ridiculed the ground on which the Government is giving PRC to non-APSTs.
"Who are they to decide the fate of the state? And as heads of the state they must restrict themselves to basic governance and what they are mandated to do, that is to protect our indigenous rights, " he said.
Chattum accused CM and Dy.CM of trying to disturb the peace in the state for their own vested political interests and cautioned that  "any attempt to infringe upon the Bengal Eastern Frontier Act 1873 will meet with stiff resistance”.
Referring to Bengal Eastern Frontier Act 1873, he claimed that as per the act no land possession certificate or permanent residence certificate can be issued to non-APST unless a new amendment is brought under the Act.
"And granting of PRC to non-APST will also violate the Inner Line Permit (IPL) and we will never allow Arunachal to become next Tripura," he affirmed.
Spokesperson,NESA, Babang Noah Dui asserted that granting PRC to non-APST would ultimately result in more such demands in the near future too which may disturb the demography of the state.
"The state government should focus on resolving other burning issues such as Chakma Hajong instead of inventing new problems," he added.
The NESA further sought an unconditional apology from CM and Dy CM and immediate withdrawal of announcement as a new year gift to indigenous people of the state.
