ITANAGAR, Mar 2: A mysterious death in Hollongi has sparked widespread concern after the unidentified body of a male was found hanging in a bus stop between Chimpu and Hollongi National Highway on Monday Morning.
Later, the body was identified as Late Chungma Bagang, a family member of former All Arunachal Pradesh Students' Union (AAPSU) President and incumbent Chairman of the Arunachal Pradesh State Biodiversity Board, Hawa Bagang.
According to official sources, the case was formally registered at Chimpu Police Station on March 2, at around 1:00 PM. It has been recorded as Chimpu/PS Case No. 14/26 under Section 103(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023. The investigation has been entrusted to Sub-Inspector S.K. Jha.
Police sources informed that the body was discovered at around 8:00 AM by passersby at a bus stop shed along the Chimpu–Hollongi road. The deceased was reportedly found with his neck tied to the structure, while his hands and legs were bound, raising serious suspicion about the circumstances leading to his death. The matter was immediately reported to Chimpu Police.
Officials also stated that dedicated teams have been constituted to probe the case from all possible angles. The teams are examining CCTV footage from nearby locations and recording statements from family members and individuals acquainted with the deceased to reconstruct the sequence of events
Speaking to the media, Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIGP) Tumme Amo confirmed that a detailed investigation has been initiated. He assured that strict action will be taken against anyone found involved and emphasized that no angle is being ruled out.
Chairman Arunachal Pradesh State Biodiversity Board, Hawa Bagang, has also expressed grief over the incident and appealed to the police to arrest the culprit as soon as possible.
