ITANAGAR/ PASIGHAT,Dec 20: The municipal election results in Arunachal Pradesh have presented two distinct political narratives in Pasighat and Itanagar, reflecting region-specific voter preferences in urban governance.
In the Pasighat Municipal Council, which comprises eight wards, the People’s Party of Arunachal (PPA) emerged as the leading force by winning five wards and securing a clear majority. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) won two wards, while one ward was captured by an Independent candidate. The outcome underlines PPA’s strong grassroots presence and continued influence in the East Siang district headquarters.
In contrast, the Itanagar Municipal Corporation, consisting of twenty wards, witnessed an emphatic performance by the BJP, which won fourteen wards to establish an overwhelming majority in the state capital. The party’s dominance was further highlighted by several uncontested victories. The Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) won three wards, the Lok Janshakti Party (RV) secured two wards, and one ward went to an Independent candidate.
Meanwhile, Toko Babu, APCS, District Municipal Election Officer (DMEO), expressed sincere appreciation to all officials and stakeholders involved in the successful conduct of the municipal election. He extended special thanks to the Municipal Election observer, Municipal Returning Officers (MROs), Assistant Municipal Returning Officers (AMROs), Nodal Officers, Sector Magistrates, Presiding Officers, Polling Officers, Counting Supervisors and Counting Assistants, Flying Squad Teams, Static Surveillance Teams, Law and Order Machinery, Police Force, Central and State Security Personnel, Dispatch and Receiving Teams, technical support staff, and all other officers and staff associated with the election process.
He also acknowledged the cooperation of contesting candidates, political parties, media persons, civil society organisations, and conveyed his heartfelt gratitude to the voters of Itanagar capital Region for their responsible and enthusiastic participation, which played a vital role in ensuring a smooth, peaceful, and credible electoral exercise.
Meanwhile, the State BJP in a press statement extended heartfelt gratitude to the people of Itanagar for their overwhelming support and faith in the Bharatiya Janata Party. This mandate is a clear endorsement of BJP’s development-oriented policies, transparent governance, and dedication to public welfare.
The BJP remains committed to working tirelessly for the overall development of Itanagar capital region and ensuring responsive, accountable, and people-centric municipal local body governance, said the State BJP.
