Guwahati, Dec 22: The third sitting of the Regional Committees meeting for inter-state boundary between Lohit & Tinsukia District and Namsai & Tinsukia District was held under the chairmanship of Deputy Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh, Chowna Mein and Minister for Boder Protection and Development Department, Assam, Atul Bora at Janata Bhawan, Guwahati on Wednesday.
In the meeting, Regional Committees of both Assam and Arunachal had detailed discussions of all the issues pertaining to the inter-state boundary disputes in Lohit, Namsai and Tinsukia Districts under the ambit of Namsai Declaration jointly made by the State Government of both the States on July 15 last.
Addressing the media persons, Mein said " the boundary issue is a seven decades old pending issue but after the BJP Government came to power in both the Centre and the States, now we have the political will power and the seriousness to resolve the issue amicably."
He expressed thankfulness to the Prime Minister, Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister, Amit Shah for their initiatives to resolve the boundary issues in North East Region for peaceful co-existence. He also thanked both the Chief Ministers for their keenness to resolve the long pending issue.
He informed that the final reports of the Regional Committees were prepared and signed by the members for further submission to the State Governments of Assam and Arunachal Pradesh. He also informed that the joint surveys were conducted by the Regional Committees in the boundary areas before the first meeting and due consultation with all the stakeholders were also taken for amicable solutions.
He further said that the people of Assam and Arunachal Pradesh have an age-old cordial relationship and "we must carry forward this legacy."
The meeting was also attended by members of the committee namely, Karikho Kri, MLA Tezu, Chau Zingnu Namchoom, MLA Namsai, Jummum Ete Deori, MLA Lekang, Bolin Chetia, MLA Sadiya (Assam), Commissioner & Secretary for Border Protection & Development Department, Govt of Assam, G D Tripathi, DCs, SPs and other officials.
