ITANAGAR, Mar 15: Joining their colleagues across the rest of the country, hundreds of banking staff from various Itanagar-based banks today joined the two-day national strike called by the United Forum of Banks Union.
Speaking to the media, Regional Secretary, State Bank of India Officers’ Association-Northeast, Bengia Tap informed that the March 15-16 strike has been called to express resentment towards the NDA-led central government’s policy of privatization of public sector banks.
"Since 2014, out of 27 PSBs only 12 are now left. We have an apprehension that in the coming days the government might privatize all the public sector banks. Private banks only think for their profit and not for the common people. They function as per their discretion and when it comes to job guarantee, policies like ‘hire and fire’ are rampant,” Tap said.
However, he assured that cash at the ATMs will be available for the customers although the routine banking works will remain suspended.
