BANDERDEWA, Nov 17: In a decisive move against interstate drug trafficking, Banderdewa Police apprehended three individuals and seized 14.61 grams of suspected heroin in a meticulously planned operation.
Acting on credible intelligence, the police set up a trap at Banderdewa, targeting individuals reportedly planning to sell narcotics to local youths in the Capital Region. Two suspects were intercepted and arrested on the spot indentifed as Afzal Ali (22 years),  a resident of  Pasnoi, Phumara, PS North Lakhimpur, Assam and Anwar Hussain (22 years),  a resident of Pompani, PO/PS Tezpur, District Sonitpur, Assam.
On a thorough search revealed one soap case and two vials containing suspected heroin, collectively weighing 14.61 grams.
During intense questioning, the duo disclosed that they had sourced the narcotics from a supplier identified as Md. Sonnasi (28 years),  residing at Simultenga, PO Silonibari, PS N. Lakhimpur, District Lakhimpur, Assam.
In collaboration with Assam Police, a joint operation ensued, leading to the arrest of Md. Sonnasi. A search of his residence yielded nine empty vials, believed to be used for packaging narcotics.
The operation was spearheaded by SDPO Naharlagun,  Rishi Longdo, and executed by a dedicated team including Insp. Kipa Hamak (OC Banderdewa), SI Koj Tada, ASI K B Singh, HC C. Kokma, Ct Rinchin Tsering, Ct Tade Bomdon, and Ct U Gogoi. The team worked under the guidance of SP Naharlagun,  Mihin Gambo.
A case has been registered under Banderdewa PS Case No. 73/24 under Section 21(b) of the NDPS Act. This operation follows another major success earlier this month when five drug peddlers were arrested in connection with Banderdewa PS Case No. 70/2024 under the same section of the NDPS Act, stated a release.
