NAHARLAGUN, Nov 2: In a significant breakthrough in the fight against drug trafficking, Banderdewa Police, as part of the ongoing "Operation Dawn," apprehended an interstate drug peddler attempting to smuggle heroin from Assam into Arunachal Pradesh.
Acting on credible intelligence, law enforcement was alerted to an attempt to transport illegal drugs across the Assam-Arunachal Pradesh border using a two wheeler. Police set up a checkpoint at the Banderdewa gate, but the suspect evaded interception and proceeded towards Naharlagun. A swift response was coordinated by a dedicated team led by Inspector Kipa Hamak, Officer-in-Charge of Banderdewa Police Station, alongside ASI L.P. Mema, Constable T. Bomdom, and Constable R. Tsering, under the direct supervision of SP Naharlagun, Mihin Gambo.
The police team pursued the vehicle and successfully intercepted the suspect at Borum village in Naharlagun. The accused, identified as Babul Islam (38) from Ahmedpur, PS Bihpuria, District Lakhimpur, Assam, was taken into custody. Upon searching his possession, authorities found a soap case containing a substance suspected to be heroin, weighing approximately 13.46 grams.
A formal case has been registered at the Banderdewa Police Station under Case No. BDW/PS/67/2024, pursuant to Section 21(b) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. The accused, Babul Islam, remains in custody as investigations continue,stated a release.
