NAHARLAGUN, Apr 3:  The Superintendent of Police, Naharlagun, Mihin Gambo in a press communique on the Banderdewa machete attack incident which occurred on April 2, stated that, the accused, Phassang Niya, was produced before the Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM), Yupia, and has been remanded to judicial custody.
The case is under active investigation, with senior police officers closely supervising the proceedings, and that strict legal action will be taken against the accused.
Meanwhile, victim Arun Hazarika, who sustained serious injuries, is currently undergoing treatment at TRIHMS, Naharlagun, and his condition is reported to be stable. The second victim, Utpal Das, who suffered minor injuries, was discharged from TRIHMS after receiving medical treatment on the evening of April 2.
The police have also dismissed speculation linking the attack to the recent Inner Line Permit (ILP) checking drive conducted by the district administration, police, and local volunteers. Officials clarified that the incident was an isolated act and should not be misinterpreted as being connected to the enforcement of ILP regulations.
Further, SP added that, ICR Naharlagun Police is in close coordination with Assam Police to ensure effective interstate law enforcement. Authorities have confirmed that the situation in Banderdewa remains normal, with no disruption to vehicular movement.
Meanwhile, Superintendent of Police Mihin Gambo has urged citizens to refrain from spreading rumours that could create unnecessary panic or tension between the people of Arunachal Pradesh and Assam. He also assured that law enforcement agencies are actively monitoring the situation and are available for public assistance through the police helpline.
