PASIGHAT, Nov 25: Renowned social worker and nationally acclaimed blood donor Aini Taloh, Superintendent of Police, East Siang, Sumit Kr Jha and others voluntarily donated blood here at the Bakin Pertin General Hospital (BPGH), Pasighat today.
The blood donation camp was held to celebrate the birth anniversary of AYANG founder chairperson Aini Taloh (Popularly known as Ayi). Remarkably, this was her 37th time donating blood.
Speaking on the special day, the woman who is credited for revolutionizing voluntary blood donation opined that blood transfusion is an essential service for healthcare worldwide that struggle daily to achieve a balance between population needs and the quantity of donated blood available. Even in developed nations we are seeing an alarming drop in blood donations, she said.
Professional blood donation was rampant till about a decade ago in East Siang which was compounded by lack of awareness among the public on safe blood transfusion. Motivating donors, especially young first timers was not easy, Taloh said.
Lauding the efforts of AYANG volunteers, she said most of them were youths who respond to calls for blood even at odd hours.  (DIPRO)
