Itanagar, Nov 27: Arunachal Pradesh Women’s Welfare Society (APWWS) in collaboration with Arunachal Pradesh State Commission for Women (APSCW) today conducted a one day legal awareness programme at Binni Yanga Government Women’s College, Nirjuli which covered topics like crimes against women, cybercrimes, cyber laws and legal adoption. 
APWWS CEC Chairperson Gumri Ringu while expressing concern over the increase of crimes against women and children in the state asked the participants to take inputs from the programme and spread the knowledge among women folk. APSCW Member Techi Hunmai elaborated the powers and functions of the Commission and briefed on the relevant laws and free legal aid available from the Arunachal Pradesh State Legal Service Authority (APSLSA). APSLSA Member Secretary Jaweplu Chai discussed the nature of crimes against women and available punishments. Superintendent of Police, Capital Complex Jimmy Chiram while deliberating on cybercrimes and cyber laws suggested all to be cautious regarding fraud calls, SMS and emails and take help from the police if necessary.
APSCW Chairperson Radhilu Chai Techi highlighted the recommendations of the Commission put forward to the state government such as setting up of specialized maternity facilities, family and fast-track courts, women’s hostels, short-stay homes, Women Development Corporation, forensic laboratory, appointment of independent protection officers in all districts, 33% reservation for women in government jobs, soft loans for women entrepreneurs etc. Appreciating the construction of four women police stations, she asked the government to construct more such in all districts as early as possible. She also informed the Commission is currently running with three regular staff and the rest as contingency staff which sometimes prove inadequate for the work loads. Oju Welfare Association Chairperson Ratan Anya spoke on the necessity of mass awareness on legal adoption and detailed the applicable rules for the prospective adopting parents.
APWWS General Secretary Kani Nada Maling, Deputy Director, WCD Nyapi Ringu, members of the AP State Commission for Protection of Child Rights, Child Welfare Committee-ICC, legal and medical students and representatives of various women’s welfare organisations attended the programme.
